Kazakhstan to Build First Nuclear Power Plant in Almaty Region

ASTANA – Kazakhstan has designated the Zhambyl district of the Almaty Region as the site for its first nuclear power plant (NPP), according to a government decree, reported Kazinform on Feb. 25.

The country recently completed a dialogue with potential technology suppliers for the plant’s construction.

The Ministry of Energy estimates the plant could be built within eight years.
