ALMATY – More than 3,000 Almaty residents and their children recently converged on the Oi-Karagai Gorge outside of Almaty to take part in a large and colourful family-friendly festival.
The Unity Family Festival was the first of its kind in the region and was held to help promote healthy family relationships, to strengthen the family and restore traditional family values.
“We wanted to show how great it is to have a strong and harmonious family. After all, a happy family is the main resource to overcome any crisis. Together, we are a great force,” Festival Organizer Botagoz Aldongarova said.
The festival is meant to promote the harmonious physical, intellectual and social development of children and adolescents, the formation of positive emotional and decision-making qualities and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
The Unity Festival area was divided into five zones where everyone could find something interesting. In the Psychology Zone, for example, parents attended master classes on parenting and child psychology. In the Creativity Zone, professional masters taught children and adults the basics of decorative art and playing musical instruments. The Sports Zone was the most active zone. At the Musical Theatre Zone a contest was held and zone of Mother and Child had places for relaxing, feeding and hygiene of babies and their mothers.
Upon the close of the two-day festival, organizers promised to make the celebration an annual event .
