Zhambyl Farmer Offers Unique Kumys Tours, Promotes Regional Tourism

ASTANA – Sauranbai Donenbayev, a resident of the Zhambyl region, has introduced kumys (mare milk) tours as a new tourist attraction. The new wellness tour includes a special treatment programme, swimming, horse riding and other outdoor activities at a resort located near his farm.

Donenbayev decided to unite his farm with a wellness centre to provide mare’s milk for health improvement. The resort is expected to receive up to 40 visitors. The number of tourists can be increased up to 150 people in the future, according to Today.kz.

“We launched a project for the construction of a recreation centre on five acres of land. There will be a swimming pool, outdoor facilities and horse riding in the summer. We are pleased to do something helpful for people, at the same time tourism will increase our income. About three hundred mares provide milk to produce almost half a ton of kumys per day in the summer. The national drink is made in a special manufactory. An experienced technologist prepare kumys using several recipes depending on requests. Most of the products are sent to Astana and Almaty,” a farmer said.

The farm produces five kinds of kumys. The entrepreneur is confident that his drink will impress even the most discerning person.

“Kumys is on great demand due to its healing properties. Asau kumys is made in winter and zhasau kumys is popular in summer. We have a 20-ton container for storage and use special thermometers. Today, the construction of the new project is 80 percent complete. Recently, seven kilometres of power lines were stretched to the farm as part of the Road Map of Business 2020 programme. Now the main task is to develop a tourist route and attract holidaymakers here,” said technologist Bazarkul Amangeldykyzy.
