Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company Chairman Askar Mamin, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey Binali Yildirim and President of Turkish railway company TCDD Omer Yildiz discussed transport and logistics cooperation during the recent Eurasia Rail 2016 international railway forum in Turkey.
Yildirim briefed the sides on construction of the Kars-Akhalkalaki railway section, which will be completed in October. The group also discussed development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route (TCITR) China – Kazakhstan – Turkey – Europe, which is expected to revitalise the Trans-Caspian transport route. The route meets the needs of the international transport and logistics community, which is looking for transport connections between the markets of China, Turkey and countries of southern Europe, Mamin said.
The parties noted the work of a Coordinating Committee of the TCITR to enhance the competitiveness of the route through tariff rates, the introduction of the single technology transportation of goods and the creation of an integrated multimodal logistics product.
The group also discussed the recent increase in goods from Turkey through Aktau Port to Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. More than 1,660 units went through the port in the past two months of 2016, while in 2015 the number was 1,885.
Eurasia Rail is the third biggest rolling stock exhibition in the world since 2011 and allows for industry professionals to share knowledge and experience at a senior level.
