The campaign, which is operating under the slogan “Let’s help children together!,” seeks to identify children who are not in school as well as to support orphans, multi-child families and secondary school students from low-income families. The campaign also hopes to mitigate social factors which prevent children from attending school.

The campaign is an initiative of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science and will include a number of charity events in Astana, such as “The first time in the first grade” (presentation of gifts to first-graders from low-income families), “Friendly hands” (installation of containers in large shopping centres to collect clothes and school supplies), as well as a promotional campaign called “Family helping a family: preparing a child for school.”

Banners with “The Road to School” campaign slogan and contact details of hotlines will be placed across Astana. Volunteers will also distribute informational booklets and public reception offices will operate twice a month in certain schools to provide advice to the public.

In 2014, the campaign raised 68,506,000 tenge (US$365,000) and assisted 7,667 children.

The start of this year’s campaign was marked an Aug. 3 ceremony at the Conference Hall of the House of Ministries, during which the Dar Social Foundation gave backpacks filled with stationery to 10 children from low-income families.

“The Road to School” campaign is being held nationwide.
