ASTANA – Deputy Chairperson of the Mazhilis (lower house of Parliament) of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva has announced plans to visit Germany in the near future, according to the Mazhilis press service.
The news was made public after Nazarbayeva’s Jan. 21 meeting with Ambassador of Germany to Kazakhstan Guido Herz where the sides discussed the upcoming visit of Kazakhstan’s Mazhilis delegation to Germany,
The delegation is planning to present a letter from President Nursultan Nazarbayev to German Chancellor Angela Merkel concerning Kazakhstan’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2017-2018 term.
“Bilateral relations between our countries are characterised by a stable political dialogue and the consequent expansion of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation,” said Nazarbayevaduring the meeting, noting the importance of her planned visit.
Nazarbayeva stressed the importance of further cooperation between Astana and Berlin in the framework of the United Nations (UN), the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and other international organisations. Deputies of Kazakhstan’s Parliament hold meetings with members of the Germany – Central Asia parliamentary group in the Bundestag on a regular basis.
“Our countries have a common vision on global security issues, development of mutual partnership and friendship, cooperation in social, economic and cultural spheres. We will be happy to discuss all these issues during our trip to Germany in the course of the meetings, scheduled in our programme,” Nazarbayeva said.
In turn, the German ambassador said his country supports major international initiatives of Kazakhstan and is interested in strengthening mutually advantageous bilateral cooperation.
Concluding the meeting, the sides agreed on the need to advance inter-parliamentary diplomacy.
