ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s five-person team at the 15th World Police and Firefighters Games held in Belfast came home with 13 medals: five gold, three silver and five bronze.
The last medal came from boxer Abdusanat Sharafov from Almaty, police captain and gold medal winner of the previous two games in Vancouver in 2009 and New York in 2011. In Belfast, he won silver.
Team captain Serik Nurgaliyev, officer from the central office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, won two gold medals in bench press and push-pull lifting.
Askar Zhandarov, world champion from Shymkent, won a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, a silver medal in freestyle wrestling and bronze medals in judo, bench press, push-pull lifting and arm wrestling.
Talgat Kozhabayev, senior inspector of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Astana, won silver in judo in the over 100 kilogramme weight category and a gold medal in open-weight judo.
Inspector of Arlan special units Askhat Yelubayev won a gold medal in judo in the up to 90 kilogramme weight category.
