Winter Universiade 2017 Ticket Office Opens in Almaty

ASTANA – Almaty opened Dec. 2 the ticket office of the 28th World Winter Universiade 2017 at Mega Alma-Ata shopping mall,reported almaty2017.com.

Universiade 2017 ambassadors, including famous Kazakh sportsmen, artists, well-known bloggers and TV presenters attended the opening.

The ticket office will provide discounts for veterans, disabled people, children and students as well as group and corporate packages.

The ticket office is a required part of Universiade preparations and an important stage in the work of the Directorate for Preparation and Holding the Universiade 2017, said head of the Directorate Nail Nurov.

“We tried to consider all suggestions, modern requirements and standards of such major events. We created a single ticket office where people can carry out any procedures of purchasing and registration without any difficulties. We hope that it will provide quick and comfortable services for all future guests of the Universiade,” Nurov said.

Winter Universiade will be Jan. 29-Feb. 8. More than 2,000 athletes from 57 countries are expected to participate. Three thousand volunteers, foreign and domestic, will be involved and more than 30,000 visitors are expected, according to almaty2017.com.

The Universiade’s programme will include 12 sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, curling, speed skating, Nordic combined, cross-country, ski jumping, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle skating, ice hockey and short track. . One hundred and twenty-seven international judges and approximately 600 national technical officials will award 86 medals.

The Games Control Centre will monitor events online 24 hours a day. The competitions will be at eight venues: Shymbulak Ski Resort, Medeu High-mountain Ice Rink, Sunkar International Ski Jumping Complex, Baluan Sholak Sports Palace, Alatau Cross-country Skiing and Biathlon Stadium, Almaty Arena, Halyk Arena and Tabagan Ski Resort.

An Athletes’ Village is being constructed specifically for the event for the first time in Winter University Games history. The village consists of eight-nine-storey apartment blocks in eight buildings and four 14-storey ones, a universal square in the middle, a dining room for 800, swimming pool, medical centre, cinema and domestic service facilities and more. All venues built for the Winter Universiade will be available for public use after the games.
