ASTANA – The National Academic Library in Astana hosts many events throughout the year and invites members of the public in February to various exhibitions and presentations.
An exhibition titled “Nurly Zhol – Be a Legend of the Future!” consists of four sections and includes an exhibition of book collections from the National Academic Library. The exhibition, dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate, displays more than 180 books and periodicals.
An exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of victory in WWII will display 140 books and 13 documents and include a slideshow dedicated to war veterans and home front workers. Another book exhibition is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Constitution and showcases around 90 books.
On Feb. 20, a classical music concert at the same exhibition space took place featuring a free piano performance by Said Halykov, a laureate of international competitions in Italy and Romania.
On the same day, anyone interested is welcome to attend a film screening organised by the library’s language club. The movie to be shown is called The Process (Der Prozess) and runs for two hours. It was released in 1962 as a feature film based on Frank Kafka’s novel by the same name. The screening will start at 17:30 followed by a discussion seminar. The film and seminar will be held in German and facilitated by representatives of the Goethe Institute in Kazakhstan.
On Feb. 21, the library will hold another exhibit of periodicals dedicated to International Mother Language Day. The recommended periodicals and books will be focused on languages and learning. The event will be held on the fourth floor in room 410.
Feb. 25 will see a round table discussion on the historical heritage of Yermukhan Bekmakhanov and modern historiography. Bekmakhanov was a researcher of socio-economic problems and the political history of 19th and early 20th century Kazakhstan as well as of the revolutionary movement in the region during the Russian Revolution.
On Feb. 26, guests can attend a public lecture on the “national tendencies” in the poetry of Kadyr Myrza Ali. Born in 1935, Kadyr Myrza Ali is a national poet and one of the authors of Kazakhstan’s national anthem.
Finally, the library’s last event in February will be a meeting with prominent children’s writer Daria Dzhumageldinova on Feb. 27. The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. in Shanyrak Hall.
