ASTANA – Kazakhstan leads the overall medal standings at the sixth World Nomad Games with 55 medals, reported the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
As of Sept. 4, Kazakh athletes had won 25 gold, 13 silver and 17 bronze medals.

The Kyrgyz Republic ranks second with 58 medals, including 23 gold, 24 silver and 11 bronze. Russia is third with 23 medals: four gold, six silver and 13 bronze.
Kazakhstan has won medals in audaryspak, kazakh kuresi, alysh, arm wrestling, sambo, tug of war, traditional archery, horse racing, eagle hunting and other disciplines.
Syrym Izbasarov won the audaryspak title in the 100-kilogram division. The world champion and two-time WNG winner defeated his longtime rival from the Kyrgyz Republic in the final to claim his third games title.
Daryn Otkelbai also won gold in the 90-kilogram division, while Nurzhan Erkinuly took bronze in the heavyweight category.
In the eagle hunting competition, Serikbolsyn Zhalgasuly and his hawk, Zhebe, won the gold medal. Arman Koshkarov and his golden eagle, Algyr, took silver. Kazakhstan fielded nine athletes in the eagle hunting competition.

Kazakhstan’s arm-wrestling team delivered the country’s strongest performance, winning 12 medals, including seven gold, four silver and one bronze.
Kazakh women also excelled in archery. Ayash Kabdollayeva won gold in the 60-meter puta target event, while Asemgul Galymzhanova took gold in the 40-meter Central Asian target event.
Kazakh athletes are yet to compete in 11 sports, meaning the standings could still change as the games continue.
The country also won the 300-kilometer long-distance horse race, known as zhoryk. Kazakh riders completed the four-day race first, finishing ahead of the Kyrgyz Republic.
