Astana Akim (Mayor) Adilbek Dzhaksybekov directed city administrators on Feb. 16 to seek the complete elimination of unemployment in the capital, which already has the lowest unemployment in the country, the press service of the city administration reported.
The directive came during a recent meeting of city administration staff during which the akim instructed the Employment and Social Programmes Office of Astana to develop a detailed action plan and to work more closely with the media.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s recently voiced action plan for the country, the Nurly Zhol economic programme, as well as the work of the capital’s public services, transport systems and health care facilities.
“The main challenge we are facing at the moment is to keep expanding our capital and strengthening our social support. Therefore, for the rational use of the budget and more efficient operation of all public bodies, I hereby task all state bodies to make proposals for the optimisation of the budget as soon as possible, with the main emphasis on the implementation of existing projects,” said the akim.
Analysing the work of city departments, Dzhaksybekov highlighted the absence of systematic work in the transport logistics of the city and lack of information about the city, in particular, in the formation of prices for travel on public transport.
It is important to conduct trainings to prevent inundations, clearing snow and conducting sanitary cleaning of the capital, Dzhaksybekov said, according to the report.
“Despite the fact that trainings to prevent floods are held as scheduled in the first place, we need to concentrate all our efforts and resources on the removal of snow from the private lodging sector, particularly in those areas that are subject to annual flooding. Much attention should be paid to courtyards. In order to secure [the safe] crossing [of] flood waters in the areas of Combined Heat and Power plant No. 2 (CHP-2) and industrial parks, all crossings, bridges and dams that were built illegally on the Yessil, Akbulak and Sarybulak rivers [should be evaluated and eliminated],” the akim stressed.
At the end of the meeting, administrators were instructed to ensure that the areas around small- and medium-sized businesses such as cafés, shops and hairdressers are regularly cleaned.The Office of Health was also mandated to establish a system to improve the quality of medical services for the population.
