ASTANA – Prime Minister Karim Massimov of Kazakhstan held a government meeting on social and economic development in Kazakhstan on June 2.
According to the report from the Prime Minister’s office, government officials discussed the establishment and operation of an Almaty regional financial centre. Chairman of the National Bank Kairat Kelimbetov also discussed the main tenets of the draft of the Eurasian Economic Union financial centre (EEU) and the New Silk Road development scheme.
The government also reviewed and approved a comprehensive draft plan to improve the consumer protection system for 2014-2015, which was presented by Chairman of Consumer Protection Agency Bolatbek Kuandykov.
Regional Development Minister Bolat Zhamishev discussed measures to improve land legislation and the Minister of Agriculture Assylzhan Mamytbekov reported on measures to ensure veterinary safety.
Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov explained state water managementinitatives, which include savingwater, increasing water reserves, improving public water supply, wastewater disposal and ecosystem conservation. In particular, it is planned to reduce water consumption by 14 percent according to GDP, take water conservation measures, repair and modernise water supply networks and open 29 water storage facilities.“We will continue to rehabilitate and protect lakes in protected areas as well as riverbeds,” Kapparov said.
During the meeting, Chairman of the Agency for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies Murat Ospanov reported onthe tariff reforms under consideration. The basis of the new tariff policy is the establishment of long-term control parameters of regulation.
“Starting in 2015, all monopolies will operate using long-term rates for a period of five years,” Ospanov said.
Employment Roadmap 2020 was also discussed. Minister of Labour and Social Protection Tamara Duissenova reported on the progress of its implementation.
