ASTANA – The official International Specialised Exhibition (BIE) flag will be transferred to Kazakhstan, which has been chosen to host EXPO 2017, during the BIE’s general assembly meeting in June.
Chairman of the Board of EXPO 2017 Company Talgat Yermegiyayev made that announcement on May 21 during a special session of the 7th Astana Economic Forum (AEF) titled,“EXPO 2017: Preparation of the Infrastructure of Astana.”
“The government of Kazakhstan pays much attention to the construction and preparation of EXPO 2017, which is an event of national significance. And in this case, the active participation of the citizens of Kazakhstan is going to be the key to its success,” Yermegiyayev said.
He also underlined that in April, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan launched the construction of the expo’s facilities.
The May 21 special session was attended by Advisor to the Secretary-General of the BIE on communication issues Ivan Prostakov, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics (2006) George Fitzgerald Smoot III, Special Adviser to the United Nations Fund for the initiative Sustainable Energy for All Serge Martin and Co-founder and Managing Partner of the TIMWE Ricardo Carvalho.
Planners hope the facilities being constructed for EXPO 2017 will become an integral part of the city and plan to apply the latest technologies in their development.
“Today, we would like to present some ideas about how the EXPO 2017 exhibition should help visitors to coordinate and facilitate transport and leisure as well as how the standard of living of the city’s residents will improve after the exhibition. We believe that this event will raise Astana’s development to the next level. This is the main idea,” Carvalho said.
