ASTANA –The Rukhaniyat government institution is offering free eight-month courses for anyone wanting to speak and write in Kazakh, reported the capital Akimat (city administration) press service.
The courses are available at all levels of difficulty – basic (A-1, A-2), average (B-1, B-2) and competent (C-1) – for those wanting to advance their communication skills. The centre determines the level by testing, then divides participants in groups of 10-13. The courses will start February and study rooms will be located in four city districts depending on the number of applicants.
After completing a course, the centre will award a certificate and invite the participant to continue on to the next level.
Last year, 1,370 people studied under the programme and the centre plans to reach the same number of students in 2019, said National Centre for Languages Director Aizhan Sumgatova.
The programme is “based on the basic principles and uses methods of communicative approach,” according to the press office. The courses are popular among school teachers and healthcare workers.
“They interact with people; for them to know the state language is of great importance. Also, at the courses you can often meet people of other nationalities. Sometimes it is difficult to explain grammar to them, but in our business the main thing is desire and patience,” said teacher Magzhan Togzhanova.
The courses are well received by students.
“I am satisfied with the result [of attending the courses]. Now, I am 33 years old and perhaps many people would think that it is too late to learn a language. My experience suggests otherwise,” said Irina Sviridova, who attended last year. “It has become easier at work. Now, I don’t need to ask colleagues to translate official documents; I have already begun to understand them. Of course, I will continue my studies.”
“I like studying this course,” she added in Kazakh.
