German USF Sports Director Thorsten Hutsch and head of a delegation from the Netherlands Jules Vereecken recently praised the Universiade 2017 Athletes’ Village and the Medeu winter sports complex, reported the press office of the Organising Committee for the Winter Universiade 2017.
“We are looking forward to a great event in in the wonderful city of Almaty. The world famous ice rink Medeu, where many world records were set, gives a special touch to the event, as well as the Athletes’ Village,” stressed Vereecken.
According to the most recent data, about 20 athletes from the Netherlands will take part in the World University Games in 2017.
“I hope the athletes will have a great sport experience on a high quality level, besides a week of many intercultural contacts, a good cultural programme and an exchange between students on an academical level”, said Vereecken.
According to the sports director of the German USF, athletes from Germany tried to gain experience performing in the winter season 2015/2016 to prepare for Winter Universiade 2017.
“Almaty has got a long traditional history in winter sports. All athletes and officials from Germany are looking forward to coming to Almaty. We are so happy about the fact that Almaty has high international level venues in all snow and ice sports,” noted Hutsch.
The German representative also noted that the Athletes’ Village and most of the venues are conveniently very close to each other.
According to information from the Organising Committee for the Winter Universiade 2017, 54 have countries expressed their intention to take part in the Universiade. Evidently, it will be a new record for the International University Sports Federation in the history of Winter Universiades.
