Members of the Mazhilis or lower house of Kazakhstan’s Parliament planted a new poplar alley along Turan Avenue in Astana as part of their volunteer Saturday work on Sept. 21. Along with poplars, the Mazhilis representatives planted ash trees and maples. The planting stock for the alley was brought from the forest nursery forming the green belt around Astana. Members of three factions of the political parties represented in the Mazhilis took part in the volunteer work and planted 200 trees over the course of the day.
Dwelling sites dating back to the Stone Age and Bronze Age were found in the Beskaragai archaeological complex in Pavlodar region, reported the press service of the Pavlodar Pedagogical Institute. The sites were found during the course of work on the archaeological heritage of Saryarka project. “Pieces of ceramic ovenware, arrowheads, buttons, a bronze axe and daggers were found at the archaeological sites,” head of the expedition group from the AltaY State Pedagogical Academy Sergey Sitnikov said. He was impressed by the number and diversity of archaeological monuments in the region. “Almost all epochs from the Paleolithic Age to the Middle Ages are represented there. We are very happy with our findings, including the bronze axe and daggers from the 12th-9th centuries BC. Just imagine, these things are 3,000 years old and ancient people used them as weapons or instruments of labour,” Sitnikov said.
A woman gave birth on the high-speed Tulpar-Talgo train, head of the press-service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’s Passenger Services company Timur Assylkhanov said. “The labour and delivery of passenger Gulziya Abeuova of the Tulpar-Talgo train on the Astana-Almaty-2 route occurred on Sept. 21 at 7 a.m. Train Chief Elmira Yegemberdiyeva took emergency measures and found doctor-gynaecologist Maria Somidotskih among the passengers,” Assylkhanov said. According to him, a happy mother and her child were handed over to paramedics at Almaty-2 station. The boy, Abeuova’s second child, was named Arlen in honour of a young man who helped in the delivery. Passenger Services also reported that the boy’s grandfather took a sheet with the logo of the company as a souvenir. According to Assylkhanov, this was the first childbirth on the Tulpar-Talgo train.
The infrastructure of tourist and historical destinations in the Kyzylorda region is to be completely renewed and new facilities are to be built. The area has a number of historic sites related to the Silk Road and contains more than 500 historical and cultural monuments. The ancient towns of Sauran and Syganak and the architectural monuments and tombs Sunak ata, Aikozha ishan, Karasopy, Oksha ata, Dosbol bi, Yessabyz, the Aktasa mosque and Korkyt ata complex are part of the area’s Silk Road legacy. Another attraction is the Baikonur cosmodrome, the construction of which was started in 1955. Baikonur is the world’s biggest scientific space testing site. The total area of the cosmodrome, including support facilities, is 61,717 square kilometres. Baikonur will be one of the facilities of the EXPO 2017 exhibition. Baikonur, the Korkyt ata complex and the vicinity of the Kambash and Kymystybas lakes in the Aral district are slated to become Kazakhstan’s centres of tourism.
Zhazira Zhylkyshiyeva, head of the Department for Coordination of Employment and Social Programmes of Kyzylorda region, discussed the implementation of the Employment 2020 programme in the region. “Nine billion tenge (about $58.8 million) was allocated for implementation of the programme in the region this year.
The population of Astana as of August 1, 2013 amounted to 795,801 people. Compared to the beginning of 2013, the population of Astana grew by 17,603 people.
