ASTANA – Astana will host the UEFA Super Cup in 2028, marking the first time the prestigious European club football match will be held in Kazakhstan.

The decision was approved by the UEFA Executive Committee on Sept. 15. The match will take place at Astana Arena, which will become the venue for the annual meeting between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
The UEFA Super Cup has traditionally brought together the winners of Europe’s two major club competitions in a single match at the start of the new season. The fixture has been held at different European venues since 2013.
Astana Arena has previously hosted major international football events. In 2015, FC Astana became the first Kazakh club to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, with its home matches played at the stadium. The club’s historic European campaign was covered here.
The stadium has continued to host European club competitions, including Champions League fixtures involving FC Astana and FC Kairat.
Preparations for the 2028 Super Cup will include infrastructure upgrades to ensure the stadium meets UEFA’s requirements for hosting the event.
The 2027 UEFA Super Cup will be played at Johan Cruyff ArenA in Amsterdam, while Astana Arena will host the following year’s edition. The exact date and the participating teams for the 2028 match will be determined after the corresponding European club competitions are completed.
The decision adds Kazakhstan to the list of countries that have hosted one of UEFA’s major annual club fixtures and brings a high-profile European football event to Astana.
