ASTANA – The Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development plans to complete a national healthcare formulary before the end of 2015 that will give all citizens access to medicines, regardless of their social status, and will limit the maximum price for medicines.

“Our international team of experts worked on many projects, including the first formulary in the world, the British national formulary. But the Kazakhstan national formulary is the first new one having ambitious goals, such as to provide new sources of knowledge, improve the formulary system and contribute to the usage of medical evidences,” said Duncan Enright, developer of the British national formulary, which is acknowledged as the best in the world.
Only medicines with proven clinical efficiency will be put in the formulary. Up-to-date international practices and the best drug treatment approaches will be used in this project. International experts will also help develop the Kazakh formulary.
Kazakhstan hasn’t had its own national formulary before. Clinical efficiency, cost efficiency, consumption level and cost of treatment for every disease will be taken into consideration.
Enright believes the formulary will provide access to medicines for Kazakh citizens and save money through the effective procurement of medicines and the creation of a competitive market. It also will help to forecast demand for medicines.
