The Kazakh Army team recently won third place in the first military-sports games among armies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to the press service of the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan. The Kazakh team won 47 medals, including seven gold, 16 silver and 24 bronze.
Three hundred soldiers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Belarus and Armenia competed in various sports during the competition. Kazakhstan was represented by members of the Central Sports Club of the Army of the Ministry of Defenсe. Russia took first place overall followed by Belarus.
During the first day of the competition, Kazakh swimmer and a master of sport international class, Junior Sergeant Alexander Tarabrin outscored his rivals. He won gold medals after completing the 50- and 100-metre backstroke. Other swimmers Michael Nikulshin, Georgy Parashutov, Eugene Azaryev and Andrey Zubakov won 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Kazakh eleven-time world champion Junior Sergeant Vitaliy Didenko won gold in weightlifting in the weight category up to 95 kg. Judoka Gusman Kyrgyzbayev won gold in the 60 kg category. Meirzhan Kaltayev, Talgat Amrenov, Ashimkhan Kazhy, Kazhymukhan Oteuliev and Assan Mambetkulov won two silver and three bronze medals for their performance on tatami.
