Speaking at a press conference on Oct. 6, Chan said the idea was first discussed during a meeting with Kazakhstan’s Vice President Erlan Karin in China in 2017 or 2018, when Karin served as State Counselor, Kazinform reported.
“I was surprised that the team had already started working on the script and selected a director,” Chan said, noting that the project moved from an initial proposal to production much faster than he had expected.
He also praised the shoot’s organization and government support.
Kazakh actor and producer Rustem Omarov said Chan sustained a shoulder injury and later fractured a rib during filming. Despite doctors advising him to rest, Chan returned to the set within days.
Filming will continue in Shanghai, with the film scheduled for international release in 2027.
The project is expected to promote Kazakhstan’s tourism and cultural potential and help attract further international film productions to the country.
