Kazakh President Tells Ministry of Defence to Maintain Readiness to Meet Challenges

ASTANA – President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the leadership of the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan on Dec. 28 to discuss the results of the armed forces activities in 2015 to strengthen the country’s defence capacity and to enhance the troops’ combat readiness.

The President noted that, despite the difficulties in the world economy and in international politics, Kazakhstan has steadily evolved to develop an appropriate anti-crisis strategy and completes the current year with positive figures.

The head of state stressed the gradual implementation of the Nurly Zhol new economic policy, the State Programme for Accelerated Industrial and Innovative Development and the five institutional reforms. The President noted that these steps dictate the need for an active and effective realisation of large-scale problems.

Nazarbayev also noted the important role of the army in the prevention and neutralisation of contemporary military and terrorist threats.

“Every citizen of Kazakhstan, while thinking about their security, relies on our armed forces, so none of you should forget about it. You should always be ready and keep your powder dry. The government, for its part, should create all the necessary conditions for the army. Your task is the education and quality training of officers and soldiers,” the President said.

In addition, the Supreme Commander emphasised that the military should take into account new trends and patterns of armed conflict, to continue improving the level of professional, military and moral-psychological training.

At the end of the event the head of state set a number of tasks for the development of the Armed Forces in 2016, congratulated the officers on the upcoming holiday.

Head of the Presidential Administration Nurlan Nigmatulin, Assistant to the President and Secretary of the Security Council Nurlan Yermekbayev also attended the event.
