Minister of Defence Imangali Tasmagambetov conducted the alert, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Defence press service.

“The main target of the current trainings is the team play improvement of military command bodies and military personnel in operational commitment within a prescribed period,” reported the press service.

The defence minister issued an order for military airplanes to leave the ground for airborne alert. The pilots intercepted air targets and conducted bombing strikes on an “enemy” on the ground, reported the press service.

“The activities afforded an opportunity to evaluate the combat-ready status in an unbiased manner, see problems, give practice for our commanding officers and all military personnel in operational commitment within a prescribed period,” as quoted by the press service.

This training alert is distinguished by its unexpected nature for audited armed forces. The defence ministry considers such an approach to the military’s organisation to be the most effective, because it enables the ministry to define the ability of military command bodies to make reasonable decisions in current training-combat situations and objectively evaluate the practice actions of the armed forces during training-combat missions. At the same time, several system weaknesses in combat readiness and personnel training levels were found, according to the press service.
