Gazizа Zhubanovа State String Quartet Performs in Astana

concertASTANA – The Gaziza Zhubanova State String Quartet performed recently at the Nazarbayev Centre on Jan. 22.

The quartet consists of young musicians who have won numerous prestigious international prizes, as well as the Daryn State Youth Prize.

Concert host Julia Gaisina preceded each piece by sharing with the audience the story of the piece’s creation, highlights of the work and facts about its author.

The concert opened with Quartet number 6, op. 50 D major by Joseph Haydn. The piece presented the fundamental principles of classical quartet – the equality of all four instruments. The piece was performed by Aydar Toktalievu (first violin), Alexei Lebedev (second violin), Kim Bogdanov (alto) and Ernar Myntaevu (bass viol).

Also performing Rondo for String Quartet by Anton Webern, the musicians demonstrated the combination of tenderness and intensity of sound, rigor and austerity of musical forms, which are typical of representatives of new Viennese School. The quartet also performed Kui by Abdimomun Zheldibaev “Erke sylqym” (“Minx”).

The beauty of the concert, including the stings conveying the sounds of the oboe, horn, organ and harp, earned the performers hearty applause and numerous bravos from the audience.
