Nazarbayev Intellectual School Opens in Kyzylorda

KYZYLORDA – On Constitution Day, Kyzylorda’s first Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Natural Science and Mathematics opened its doors. The school will accommodate 720 students with a boarding facility for 120 students from surrounding towns.

More than 5,000 local schoolchildren in seventh, eighth, ninth and 11th grades competed for grants to enter the school, undergoing tests to assess their knowledge of Kazakh, Russian, English and a number of other subjects. After competitions held in January, June, July and August of this year, 553 children were awarded grants. They will be provided with three meals a day and school and sports uniforms, free of charge. The Nazarbayev Intellectual School will also cover participation expenses of its students in competitions both in Kazakhstan and in foreign countries. A total of 91 local teachers were selected for positions at the school, out of 459 who applied. Selected teachers have already completed training courses at the Centres of Pedagogical Skills in Astana and Kyzylorda. Qualified foreign teachers will also work at the school.

The new school is a 14-block complex occupying six hectares. According to the principal of Kyzylorda Nazarbayev Intellectual School, Gulmira Munkeeva, the school is fully equipped and has classrooms with robotics and nanotechnology, biotechnology and technical modelling devices. There are also modern chemical, physical and biological laboratories and experimental geographic stations, as well as electronic and physical libraries.

The school has two indoor gyms with sports equipment, a climbing wall, a football field with artificial turf and basketball, volleyball and tennis courts.

“The Nazarbayev Intellectual School will help young, gifted children develop their talents and unlock their potential to acquire the best education and succeed in life,” Munkeeva said.
