Kukushkin wins Challenger in Istanbul


Tennis star Mikhail Kukushkin won ATP series Challenger in Istanbul.

Kazakhstan tennis player Mikhail Kukushkin won ATP series Challenger in Istanbul on Sunday Sept. 15 by beating 4th seeded Ukrainian Ilya Marchenko (6:3; 6:3).

The 25 year old Kukushkin had already beat Marchenko seven times prior to the Sunday’s face off and lost twice. The match lasted only 1 hr and 18 minutes and the 145th ranked Kukushkin earned 90 points and US$10,800 to claim the title climbing to 124th spot in ATP rankings.

Kukushkin managed to oust the top seeded Guillermo Garcia Lopez of Spain (7:5; 6:3) on Sept. 14 to reach the final.
