Astana Offers Many Horseback Racing and Riding Options

ASTANA – Summer is a time to be outside enjoying the weather with family and friends. And Astana’s many horse racetracks are becoming a popular leisure time choice.

Astana has several such racetracks and horseback riding facilities, including Bal Qaragay, Tulpar and Pegasus where guests can spend days and evenings watching races and riding horses.

Bal Qaragay is not only a racetrack, but is located in a lush, forested part of Astana just a few minutes from the city center.

“Bal Qaragay is the place where you can always dip into the quiet, green forest, enjoy the singing of the birds and breathe in the fresh air all at once,” said Astana resident Zhanna Smagulova.

“I really love this place, because people need to have quality leisure time on the prairies. It’s a great place for an active family holiday, corporate gathering, team building and just perfect to spend free time with friends. Sport lovers can also play soccer and volleyball on the specially designed fields. In the cozy log homes you feel completely free of the city. In general, one should visit to understand the beauty of the place,” frequent Bal Qaragay visitor Akhmet Gabudilinov told The Astana Times.

Bal Qaragay also offers visitors the opportunity to ride horses. “Those who love very fast-paced riding and are capable of chasing horses at a gallop and trotting over long distances, (Bal Qaragay) is the best place. Bal Qaragay owns many horses for the very seasoned riders. I really enjoy riding those sport horses that are specially trained at this club,” said Astana resident Yernat Mukhamedyarov. “Bal Qaragay is the ultimate destination for horse lovers.”

Tulpar sport club is another popular option for horse lovers. “Horses in Tulpar are very well maintained – clean feet, glossy back, silky mane,” said Tulpar visitor Sapar Alzhanov.

“We do not have universal horses. Every horse is trained for a particular sport. Firstly, when the horse is still a foal, we monitor its character (to determine for which activity the horse is best suited),” said Tulpar Horse Trainer Angelina Safargaliyeva.

And the Equestrian club Pegasus offers individual and group horse-riding lessons with a qualified instructor. Other horse related recreation opportunities in Astana include Kazanat and Kulager.

“In Astana it is easy to find a place for riding and horseback tours. I really do like to spend my time with my family in such places,” said Mukhamedyarov.
