Volunteers Organize Astana Charity Fair

ASTANA – On December 15, the annual “Become a Magician!” charity fair took place in Astana’s Sary-Arka shopping and entertainment center. The fair has become a popular tradition before the New Year.

In 2011, New Year celebrations under this umbrella were organized in the National Center of Maternity and Childhood, the Sabi Fund of the Mothers of Disabled Children, the Children’s Neurologic Hospital, the Seifullin Street Orphanage and the SOS Children’s Village. Thanks to the efforts and goodwill of more than 150 companies and private individuals, money was collected to buy toys and sweets, gifts, food and souvenirs. Dozens of families received aid in the form of food, clothes and gifts. Santa Claus visited many children who could not visit the outdoor events.

Despite the severe weather conditions, “Become a Magician!” proved a success. More than 100 volunteers helped organize it. They baked cakes and pastries for sale, decorated the premises, delivered, packed and sold goods, organized the entertainment programme and earned altogether 552,243 tenge.

All the money will be used to organize New Year celebrations and to purchase gifts for disabled children and those in Astana orphanages.
