Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler Nurmakhan Tynaliyev, 27, won his category at the May 6-10 Asian Wrestling Championship (AWC) in Doha, Qatar, vesti.kz reported.
The Kazakh wrestler beat Kian Men of China in the final in his 130-kilogramme category with a score of 3:2. It was Tynaliyev’s second tournament win. In 2013, he took a gold medal in a tournament in New Delhi, India. Tynaliyev has also won three bronze medals at similar events.
In the 98-kilogramme category, another Kazakh athlete, Margulan Assembayev, took bronze by bettering Beksultan Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan.
Nursultan Tursynov (85 kilogrammes) won silver while Zhasulan Koshanov (80 kilogrammes) and Demeu Zhardayev (66 kilogrammes) both took bronze.
The Asian Wrestling Championships are organised by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee (AAWC). The men’s tournament began in 1979 and the women’s tournament was first staged in 1996. It has been held annually since 1996.
