Undefeated in their fifth season, the Astana Arlans established themselves as the strongest team in group B on Feb. 21 by defeating the Condors of Argentina and the Puerto Rico Hurricanes earlier on Feb 15 to extend their win streak to six.
In the fight against the Condors in the Flyweight (52 kilogrammes) division, Azamat Issakulov beat Argentina’s Ricardo Maximiliano Ibarra. World Series of Boxing (WSB) veteran lightweight (60 kilogrammes) Roman Chshegrinov scored another point with a victory over Brian Ivan Nunez.
The 2013 International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championships gold medalist Daniyar Yeleussinov beat Luis Alberto Veron in the welterweight (69 kilogrammes) bout. Croatian Hrvoje Sep then continued the winning streak to oust South America’s Josue Oliva in the heavyweight category (81 kilogrammes) and super heavyweight (91+ kilogrammes) Filip Hrgovic finished the one-sided show with a technical knockout against Carlos Ortega.
In the match against the Puerto Rico Hurricanes, Mardan Berikbayev earned the first win for the home team in the light flyweight category (up to 49 kilogrammes) by defeating Anthony Ortiz. In the next fight, World Series of Boxing veteran in the bantamweight (56 kilogrammes) category Meirbolat Toitov impressively floored Luis Ruis 27 seconds into round two. In the third bout among light welterweights (64 kilogrammes), Samat Bashenov outboxed Jan Rivera and secured the Arlan’s win over the Hurricanes. As the team competition continued in the middleweight category (75 kilogrammes), 2013 International Boxing Association World Championships gold medalist Zhanibek Alimkhanuly stopped Jeffrey Flaz Guillén in the first round in his season debut.
In the heavyweight category (91 kilogrammes), Vasiliy Levit finished the bout early by knocking out Gabriel Richards in the second round.
