The agreement was concluded during a presentation of a Kazakhstan TV-produced mini-series in Bishkek between Kazakhstan TV Chairperson Yerlan Karin and Director of the Kyrgyz tele-radio corporation Ilim Karypbekov.

“The goal of the event is to strengthen relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in the field of promoting cinema and television series of its own production,” the Kazakhstan TV said in a statement. “With the support of the government of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan TV increases the production of its own series production year by year. In 2009, the first six-episode series ‘Agaiyndy’ was produced. Kazakhstan TV has filmed and shown over 60 television series of different genres, the most popular of which are ‘Agaiyndy,’ ‘Kok tarlandary,’ ‘Syrgalym,’ ‘Ayauli Arman,’ ‘Ake,’ ‘Inkar zhurek’ and so on.”

More than a dozen Kyrgyz television channels attended the presentation. According to Kazakhstan TV, the entrance to the Kyrgyz television market will be one of the directions for the wide promotion of Kazakh television productions to international markets.

Kazakhstan TV also participates in international television markets in Cannes, Moscow, Budapest, Berlin, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan and Seoul, among others. The rights to the television series were acquired by the broadcasters in China, the United States, Russia, including its republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, as well as in Cyprus and Slovenia.

Kazakhstan TV is the country’s largest media resource, according to the company’s official data. The corporation includes three national and 14 regional television channels, as well as four radio stations and 36 websites. The company broadcasts in most of Kazakhstan, as well as in the border regions of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China and Mongolia. The company also promotes the state language and switched in September 2011 to broadcasting in the Kazakh language only. In addition, the channel also produces at least 87 percent of its own broadcast material.
