PAVLODAR – Two new projects, one producing inhibited hydrochloric acid and one producing liquid bleach, acid and alkaline household chemicals, will be launched in Pavlodar’s special economic zone (SEZ) by the end of the year, Yerlan Orymbekov, chairman of the board of Caustic Company said earlier in November.
The inhibited hydrochloric acid production project, with a capacity of 45,000 tons per year, will be the first of its kind in the country and is expected to completely eclipse the need for imports. The acid produced will be 15-20 percent cheaper than imported products.
The second project, with a total investment of over 150 million tenge (nearly US$1 million) is being implemented as part of a development programme operated by Caustic and the Goldman & Young company. Belizna-PV, which will be producing the chemicals, has installed the necessary equipment and started production of an experimental batch of household chemicals.
Oblast Akim (Governor) Yerlan Aryn said the output of Belizna-PV is the first step towards creating domestic production of a wide range of household chemicals, cosmetics and disinfectants frequently used in everyday life. They will be sold through major distribution companies and retail chains. Belizna-PV and its partners plan to produce their output at a lower price than that of well-known imported products, but at quality that meets global standards. Aryn said there were plans for the new projects to open in December and more in 2014.
A special sub-zone and a range of new businesses will be created in the SEZ, including enterprises producing aluminium profiles, sheets and wire; aluminium wheels; profile systems and sectional doors as well as rolled aluminium. Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan’s national atomic company, is planning to construct a large-scale, high-value zirconium production plant in the SEZ to provide that rare-earth metal to Japan.
