ASTANA – The Russian Centre for Science and Culture exhibition Heart of Asia in Astana is showcasing 25 works by artist and scientist Nicholas Roerich, which were inspired by an exhibition of Central Asia.

During the exhibition, monuments of archeology, literature and the art of the peoples of the vast region were investigated for the first time. That expedition was a real feat of research, expanding the cultural and historical picture of the world by includingthe nomadic world of Asia.
For the first time in history, works of art showed the inaccessible region of Central Asia, the greatest mountain passes, the signs of the Great Migration, images of spiritual warriors and heroes of ancient legends. The paintings of Nicholas Roerich are widely known and include such works as “Geser Khan,” “Maitreya,” “The Guardian of the Entrance” and “Mother of the World.” The expedition went through Kazakh lands and the artist was able to witness the majesty and beauty of the steppe landscapes.
The Heart of Asia expedition was prepared by Roerich Society of Astana and is devoted to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate and the 80th anniversary of the Roerich Pact.
