ALMATY – Turkmenistan has launched an electronic visa system and an online registration portal for foreign nationals, moving parts of the country’s migration procedures to digital platforms.
The State Migration Service of Turkmenistan presented the new services with representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in the country attending the event. Turkmen ambassadors abroad also joined via videoconference.
The electronic visa system operates through the migration service’s portal, allowing foreigners to submit documents online to obtain authorization to enter Turkmenistan. A separate platform has been launched for the online registration of foreign visitors.
The service is intended for tourists, entrepreneurs and diplomats, who can submit documents for migration registration through the platform. Authorities expect the digitalization of migration procedures to reduce processing times and the amount of paperwork required from foreign nationals.
Previously, foreigners traveling to Turkmenistan for tourism generally had to obtain an invitation through a host organization or tour operator before applying for a visa.
