ALMATY – Kazakhstan has begun construction of its first Robotics & AI complex on Aug. 18. According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the complex will support research, software and artificial intelligence development, testing and localized production of robotic systems as the country seeks to build domestic capabilities in humanoid robotics.

The project was announced at the QAZBOT ROBOTICS FORUM 2026, held at the alem.ai International Artificial Intelligence Center in Astana on Aug. 19. The facility is intended to form the company’s production and research infrastructure, bringing together research and development, software and AI model development, testing, adaptation and localized production of robotic systems.
Kazakh Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Gizzat Baitursynov said the forum reflected efforts to translate international technology cooperation into concrete projects.
“For us, it is important that cooperation with leading technology companies translates into concrete projects, including the localization of solutions, training of engineering personnel and the introduction of robotics in key sectors of the economy,” Baitursynov said.
From importing robots to building local capabilities
According to QAZBOT Technologies CEO Vladislav Safarov, the company aims to develop a full technological cycle in Kazakhstan, from research and development and software to AI models, localized production and the training of engineers.
“For us, it is essential that the development of robotics in Kazakhstan is not limited to importing ready-made solutions,” Safarov said. “Our task is to create Kazakhstan’s own industrial and engineering base in Robotics & AI and, together with international partners, bring these technologies to practical application.”
The new complex is expected to provide infrastructure for this process, while cooperation with international companies is intended to support technology localization and adaptation to domestic market needs.
During the demonstration program, AgiBot humanoid robots showcased their ability to interact with people, coordinate movements and perform complex tasks, including traditional dance and martial arts movements.
The forum also included business-to-business meetings between QAZBOT Technologies, AgiBot and Kazakh companies, focusing on industry-specific challenges and opportunities to launch pilot projects. Several strategic agreements with Kazakh and international partners were signed during the event in technology, education and international cooperation.
The launch of construction and the agreements reached at the forum mark an effort to move Kazakhstan’s robotics agenda from demonstrations and technology imports toward pilot projects, localized production and the development of an engineering base capable of supporting wider adoption of robotics and AI solutions across the economy.
