ASTANA – Construction has begun in the Kazakh capital on Central Asia’s first Tier IV data center, led by AKASHI DATA CENTER and set for completion in early 2026.

The facility will host 4,000 server racks, more than doubling Kazakhstan’s current capacity of 3,800 racks. The center is supposed to address the country’s shortage of computing power, reported The Tech on June 18.
The Tier IV certification ensures less than 26 minutes of downtime per year, crucial for sectors like finance, banking, and government. The project is expected to create up to 10,000 jobs and drive economic growth.
The center will enhance Kazakhstan’s cyber sovereignty by enabling secure local data storage and protection from external threats. Combined with the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), Astana Hub, and infrastructure developed with Freedom Telecom, the project aims to attract global tech giants such as Amazon, Alibaba, and Netflix, while creating new opportunities for local talent and related industries.
