NUR-SULTAN – Officials in the Almaty Region recently agreed to assist Kazakh and U.S. entrepreneurs establish a cannabis textile plant in the region. The plant’s products will be exported to China and Europe.

Almaty Region Akim (Governor) Amandyk Batalov recently accepted a proposal to assist Elaxima Tech Style, along with U.S. partners, to create a cannabis textiles facility in Taldykorgan, reported kapital.kz.
Fibres made from technical cannabis are high quality and durable. They can be used in medicine, construction, furniture as well as garment and food manufacturing. At the same time, the technical type of the herb contains practically no cannabinoids, said Director of Yessenov Lab High-Tech Scientific Centre Sultan Kunadilov. Thus, recycled cannabis can create a fabric as good as linen.
Batalov urged officials to help find a construction site with the infrastructure to support the production and shipment of the textiles. The issue of allocating irrigated lands would be addressed cooperatively by regional farmers, he noted.
To help find a site to build the plant, the company will need to present information concerning required climate conditions for cannabis cultivation, said Deputy Akim (Governor) Serikzhan Beskempirov.
This project is the latest attempt to stimulate the cannabis-processing industry in Kazakhstan. Two years ago, the KazHemp company planted approximately 600 hectares with cannabis and have recently produced their first fabric.
At the first stage of the project they need to build 2,000 square metres-building with access to rail and road networks. For the next step the enterprise plans to cultivate the cannabis by themselves on the irrigated lands needed for that.
