President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited socially and economically important enterprises in Astana on June 30.
The head of state inspected Astana Transport and Logistics Centre, where he toured the simplified customs clearance area and became acquainted with its work. He also talked with employees, emphasising the key role of transport and logistics services for the country’s industrial development.
“All necessary documentation used to be drawn up by representatives of foreign economic activity departments within three days; here, the same procedure takes from one to three hours. We have established the largest logistics centre for goods not only in Central Asia, but also in the Caucasus and Siberia. Its capacities are now used 70 percent , which is a big step in the frames of the industrial and infrastructure development programme of Kazakhstan,” said Nazarbayev.
With a total area of 46 hectares, the Astana centre is the largest class A centre in the state to provide the infrastructure for terminal processing. The company also offers storage and additional services for national and international freight traffic, as well as urban and regional goods distribution. The storage systems, with new equipment meeting modern requirements, allow increasing the capacity of loading and unloading areas and reaching 1,000 pallets per day.
The development programme’s agenda includes the creation of a network of logistics centres in Astana and Shymkent, as well as transport and logistics complexes in Aktobe, Almaty, Khorgos and Pavlodar.
Nazarbayev also reviewed the work of the GLB house-building plant shops for carcass construction and moulding, as well as the exhibition hall. He stressed the importance of the plant, as it provides jobs for about 1,200 people. The President also mentioned the need for extensive use of the enterprise’s production capacities to successfully implement governmental housing programmes.
The GLB plant is composed of eight production facilities and manufactures a full range of concrete products for large and box-frame construction. Its total production volume is 130,000 cubic metres of products. The plant has a total area of 15 hectares and operates on the basis of German and Austrian equipment. The project is implemented within the framework of the Business Roadmap 2020.
