“We are not talking about any traditional method of area overlapping with a roadway gate. This is absolutely new technology, which will be introduced in Kazakhstan for the first time,” a representative of the city administration said.

The parking lots will appear at Nurzhol parkway as a test of the technology. Each parking lot will be equipped with special road signs, markings and sensors. An installed electronic display will help to inform drivers about available free and occupied places at the entrance. All violators of parking regulations will be dealt with by the representatives of the Transport Control Service using automated equipment with video surveillance equipment.

The project will be kicked off officially after testing.

This project will have several forms of payment which will be implemented on a phased basis. The payment forms include cash and non-cash payments via special Parkomats, payments using SMS and special mobile applications and personal accounts on the website as well.

The administration of Astana plans to create about 9,000 managed parking lots within the next year after getting positive results from the test operation. The planned area of the managed parking lots will cover 25 streets on the left bank of the capital area of the capital: Turan, Saraishyk, Orynbor and Syganak Streets. Parking lots on the right bank area will be located at the intersection of Saryarka, Bogenbai Batyr, Respublika and Naberezhnaya Streets.
