ASTANA – Chez Mademoiselle, a restaurant in the centre of Paris featuring Kazakh, Russian and Central Asian cuisine, has been included in the city’s 2016 Michelin Guide. Fewer than 1,000 of the French capital’s 15,000 restaurants were fortunate enough to be listed in the book, noted a Feb. 29 report on Forbes.kz.

Owned by partners Gaukhar and Laurent, the restaurant offers distinct tastes of Central Asian cuisine, such as pelmeni (filled dumplings), pilaf (rice), manty (dumplings), samosa (baked pastry with savoury filling) and baursaks (fried dough). The menu also features different wines and well-known regional desserts unique to the European palette. The latter include chak-chak, a Medovik cake from Oreshki.

“At Chez Mademoiselle, the dishes are made with a sure touch and served up in generous portions. Since the cuisine is Russian and Kazakh, you can be sure you won’t leave the table hungry. Try Olivier’s Russian salad and the classic beef stroganoff. Tasty fare in a convivial atmosphere. Nazdarovie!” wrote the Michelin inspectors, according to guide’s website.

The restaurant’s website entices the diner. The lone Kazakh eatery in Paris, it promises to greet guests every evening with dishes on the blackboard which change with the seasons, all at affordable prices. The average bill is about 27-35 euros (US$29.60-$38.50).

“Pushing the door of Chez Mademoiselle is like taking a direct flight to Central Asia. And you are in the heart of Kazakhstan, lost in broad steppes,” notes the website.

Published for more than 100 years, the Michelin Guide provides information about different dining experiences in cities throughout the world. Michelin is known for its strict rules to enter the guide, as well as unexpected visits by its inspectors. The book has become a sign of recognition in the industry.
